Grit and Grace Conference 2020

In celebration of the Centennial of Women’s Suffrage in the United States, Southeastern Louisiana University is hosting “Determined to Rise: 100 Years of Grit and Grace” a one-day conference including individual research papers, panel discussions, round table discussions of works in progress, and poster presentations that address women’s issues and progress across the disciplines of History, English, Communication, Political Science, and Sociology.  

The Conference will be held March 5, 2020, at the Southeastern Student Union in Hammond, Louisiana. Students, faculty and academic professional staff members are invited to participate. Presenters may be invited to publish in an online open access journal after the conference.

Special Student Division

Student essay submissions should be 4-6 pages typed with source documentation in a Works Cited List on an issue surrounding suffrage, gender equality, or political activism or any topics that address women’s issues and progress across the disciplines of History, English, Communication, Political Science, and Sociology.  Students may use the citation style of their discipline (MLA for English, APA for Sociology, etc.)


Student PowerPoint and Multimedia Presentations: The conference coordinators will also accept other types of submissions such as a 10-15 minute PowerPoint or other multimedia presentation that includes images with source documentation in a Works Cited Slide on an issue surrounding suffrage, gender equality, or political activism or any topics that address women’s issues and progress across the disciplines of History, English, Communication, Political Science, and Sociology.

Deadline for Conference Submissions

The submission deadline for all faculty, college/university students and dual enrollment students is Friday, February 21, 2020. Please check the conference website for panel times and locations. All student panels will immediately follow the opening Ceremony.
